The 2019-2020 Dream Tending Certificate Program is a limited-enrollment program that takes place over four, four-day sessions at Pacifica Graduate Institute’s Lambert Road Campus. Participants should have previous Dream Tending experience. The courses reflect the multiple dimensions of psychic life and the dream, exploring dream theory and methodology through academic and experiential avenues. Much of the learning will also take place in the dimension of dream life that is sensitive to aesthetic perceiving, poetic imagining, shamanic intuiting, and the art of not-knowing. Those who successfully complete the program and review will have completed Module One in becoming Certified Dream Tending Practitioners. The 2019-2020 Dream Tending Certificate Program includes 85 hours of training. Continuing Education Credits are available and more information is available below. Stephen Aizenstat, Ph.D., is the Chancellor and Founding President of Pacifica Graduate Institute. He is a professor of depth psychology, a licensed marriage and family therapist, and a credentialed public schools teacher and counselor. Dr. Aizenstat has explored the potential of dreams through depth psychology and his own research for more than 35 years. His Dream Tending methodologies extend traditional dreamwork to the vision of an animated world where the living images in dream are experienced as embodied and originating in the psyche of Nature as well as that of persons. An enrollment invitation will be sent via email to those who are accepted into the program. Payment for registration fees will be processed at that time. A confirmation email with further instructions regarding participation will be sent after registration is complete.
The tuition for the Dream Tending Certificate program includes instruction and selected reading material. Additionally, all participants pay the Meal Fee, which includes all meals and break service. Guest room accommodations at the Ladera Campus are available on a first come, first serve basis.
A limited number of partial scholarships are available to those who find it prohibitive to pay the full cost of the seminar. To apply, send a letter of request with your application. Please be specific regarding your financial circumstances.
The Dream Tending Certificate Program will be held at Pacifica Graduate Institute’s Lambert Road Campus at 249 Lambert Road, Carpinteria, CA 93013. Pacifica’s Lambert Road Campus is on the site of a former private estate that was built in 1924. Special efforts have been taken to enhance and maintain the campus in a manner appropriate to the history of the property and its geographic location. In addition to classrooms and lecture halls, the 13-acre Lambert Road campus houses faculty and administrative offices, the Graduate Research Library, the Joseph Campbell & Marija Gimbutas Library, extensive organic gardens, and the Pacifica Bookstore. Because of Santa Barbara County’s land use requirements, Pacifica is restricted regarding the number of cars parked on the Lambert Road Campus. Parking and shuttle information will be provided prior to the start of the certificate program.
Meals are provided to encourage ongoing dialogue and community exchange throughout the Dream Tending Certificate program. The meal fee includes Sunday night dinner; Monday breakfast, lunch and dinner; Tuesday breakfast, lunch and dinner; and Wednesday breakfast and lunch. Pacifica’s caterers make every attempt to provide healthful meals for our guests. Please indicate on the registration form if you need a special vegan, vegetarian, or gluten free meal or if you have other medical dietary restrictions.

Accommodations in the Residence Hall at Pacifica’s Ladera Lane Campus consist of standard, single rooms. These rooms include a full or twin-sized bed, sink, mirror, desk, chair, small desk fan, and alarm clock, as well as shelves and hangers for clothing. All linens and towels are included. Our Residence Hall has shared men’s and women’s bathroom and shower facilities. All shower stalls include bath mat and soap. We recommend that guests bring all of their own toiletries. Our recently renovated Semi-Suite rooms, located on the second floor of the Main Building, include a queen-sized bed with a shared bath and shower per every two rooms. Additionally, there are two Private Suites, which include a queen size bed with private bathroom and shower.
The Residence Hall has a Guest Lounge on the First Floor, complete with couches and a large screen TV. There is also a small kitchenette with refrigerator, water dispenser, and microwave.

Full refunds for registrations and lodging will be provided up to 14 days prior to an event. Cancellations made 13-6 days prior will receive a 50% refund. There is no refund for registrations or lodging cancellations made within 5 days of your arrival or if you do not show up or leave a program or event early. The Retreat at Pacifica reserves the right to cancel any program at any time. In this instance, you will be refunded in full.
To obtain a refund on your registration fee, send a written cancellation request postmarked no later than July 15, 2019. A refund, less a $100 administrative fee, will be provided until July 31. No refunds for tuition will be issued after August 1, 2019. Meal refunds will be determined based on the time of cancellation. Guest room accommodation cancellation information will be provided with your registration information.
Continuing Education Credit:
This program meets qualifications for 85 hours of continuing education credit for Psychologists through the California Psychological Association (PAC014) Pacifica Graduate Institute is approved by the California Psychological Association to provide continuing education for psychologists. Pacifica Graduate Institute maintains responsibility for this program and its content. Full attendance is required to receive a certificate.
This course meets the qualifications for 85 hours of continuing education credit for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and/or LEPs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. Pacifica Graduate Institute is approved by the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (#60721) to sponsor continuing education for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and/or LEPs. Pacifica Graduate Institute maintains responsibility for this program/course and its content. Full attendance is required to obtain a certificate.
For Registered Nurses through the California Board of Registered Nurses, this course meets qualifications of 85 hours of continuing education credit are available for RNs through the California Board of Registered Nurses (provider #CEP 7177). Full attendance is required to obtain a certificate.

Major airlines provide service into the Los Angeles International Airport located 90 miles south of Santa Barbara and into the Santa Barbara Municipal Airport, approximately 18 miles from the Campus.
