Program Description

Lighting the Forbidden Lamp: An Embodied Journey to Conscious Femininity

“A life truly lived constantly burns away veils of illusion, burns away what is no longer relevant, gradually reveals our essence, until, at last, we are strong enough to stand in our naked truth.”

Marion Woodman, “Coming Home to Myself: Reflections for Nurturing a Woman’s Body & Soul”

The ancient mythic story of Eros and Psyche tracks the initiatory journey of the Sacred Marriage through sacrifice, loss, labor and redemption to claim our deeper selves. The myth provides a portal for the exploration of our inner world and guides us on a path of discernment leading to our own unique place in the universe. It offers the tasks each of us requires to bring love to our souls. The joining of Eros (love) and Psyche (soul) brings forth new life.

How do we unfold towards wholeness, receive new life and stand our ground? How do we integrate the feminine and the masculine? How do we allow for the softening and receptivity of our bodies and souls to receive Spirit?

This workshop is an embodied approach that will explore the psychological tasks related to the development of a relationship to the unconscious and the individuation process. We will seek to embody the myth by incorporating dreams, art, gentle movement, music and dance.

In this program you will:

  • Gain an understanding of the meaning and role of myth in our lives.
  • Deepen the meaning and necessity of sacrifice as part of the individuation process.
  • Learn how intuition can assist in leading one to a soulful and creative inner life.
  • Explore the necessity of embodiment and how to integrate the feminine and masculine into one’s life through embodied movement.
  • Use Bodysoul rhythmsⓇ methods to understand how Eros (love) and Psyche (soul) can be illuminated and integrated into one’s life.

This program will have four live Zoom sessions of approximately 4 hours each. Each week will contain a small presentation, followed by related activities for participants to further deepen into the myth. Participants will be invited to share their experiences in breakout sessions.

SESSION OVERVIEWS

Session 1: Introduces participants to the myth of Eros and Psyche, and explores meaning-making in the meeting of  love and soul, including the need for sacrifice. In this session we will examine the four tasks psychologically and through embodiment.

Session 2: Asks: How do we create order out of chaos? Like Psyche, sorting the seeds, we learn to separate out what is truly important, for example, trusting in our own intuition. In Psyche’s gathering of the golden fleece, we learn how to relate to power, as well as how to be compassionate.

Session 3: In the task of Psyche’s filling the crystal goblet with the water for the river Styx we learn how to relate to the vastness of life, gaining perspective. And in descending into the underworld to retrieve Persephone’s beauty ointment, we come to understand how to relate to the archetype of the Self, as well as setting limits and exercising choice.

Session 4: By keeping our lamp lit, we learn to living a more conscious life. In this final session we ask, “What can be sacrificed and what must be saved?”
